Sister Midnight to host fundraiser party raising money for studio equipment

The event takes place this weekend at Peckham’s Carpet Shop

Sister Midnight is set to host a fundraiser party at Peckham’s Carpet Shop this weekend to raise money for Sister Midnight FM, a new community-run radio station.

The South London collective announced the launch of their all-new station last summer, which aims to uplift local talent and encourage involvement in musical community spaces.

To celebrate its launch and raise money for necessary costs such as studio equipment, the not-for-profit has announced the first event in a string of South London-based parties.

The first party takes place this Friday, March 29, at Peckham’s Carpet Shop from 11:PM until 4:AM. The line-up includes jazz and R&B specialist DJ Kojay, alongside Sister Midnight residents Rohan Rakhit, Ri Mistry, LIMI, and Soph.

Sister Midnight FM was first launched last August 2023 with a focus on South East London talent and a commitment to community inclusivity, much like the non-profit’s venue project.

The collective is also working on opening Lewisham’s first-ever community-owned music venue after securing a seven-year lease of a disused working men’s club in the heart of Catford, Brookdale Club. The venue is due to open in 2025.

Earlier this month, the team behind Sister Midnight criticised plans for flat developments at a Lewisham site they had previously attempted to acquire to build a community-led music venue, the Ravensbourne Arms.

The non-profit collective raised £260,000 through community investment and donations to acquire the former pub in 2021 but were outbid.

Developers announced plans to transform the ground floor of the pub into a block of flats at the start of March, alleging that no other offers had been made on the site for “the last 7 years” - which Sister Midnight claims is “untrue”.
