Simon Caldwell in The Lab SYD
A certified Sydney legend takes the reigns this Friday
The Lab SYD is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly live stream, powered by Void Acoustics, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our world famous international office party and this week we welcome a true Sydney legend in the form of Simon Caldwell.
His underground party institution Mad Racket has been running since 1998 and is responsible for the first ever tours of Moodymann, Jamie Lidell, The Black Madonna, Steve Bug and Charles Webster to name just a few. With genre defying sets Caldwell’s reputation as a DJ is backed with the highest integrity. He started out playing funk, jazz, soul and hip hop way back in 1981 and got into dance music while living in London in the late 1980s.
Currently in his eighth year hosting the Monday night ‘Sunsets' show on Sydney's beloved community station FBi Radio, when it comes to music his voice has become one of the most trusted in the country. It’s no surprise he has shared the stage alongside Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, James Brown, Grace Jones, Frankie Knuckles and the list goes on and on.
Fresh from a European tour, Simon mostly plays vinyl (“because I’m old”) and has big hometown shows coming up at The Island LIVE, Mad Racket 18th Birthday and Picnic One Night Stand.
This week's Lab SYD kicks off at the usual time of 6pm (AEDT) and you can watch the set in full over on our Facebook page.
