Simian Mobile Disco release new single 'Defender' complete with moving visuals

The final chapter in the duo's three-part film series

British duo Simian Mobile Disco will release their fifth studio album ‘Murmurations’ on May 11, and have this week unveiled a new teaser single ahead of the highly-anticipated LP.

The new single, titled ‘Defender’, comes complete with a cinematic film directed by Del Valle, forming the third and final chapter in a three-part visual collaboration with artists Kiani Del Valle, Rashid Kazim and Carri Munden.

Releasing on Wichita Recordings, the forthcoming album and indeed the single features Hackney-based vocal collective Deep Throat Choir alongside other contributors.

In a press statement director and choreographer Del Valle explained:

“For 'Defender' I was particularly moved by the voices of the Deep Throat Choir and how they merged with the production and composition of SMD. The words and melodies of the choir really conduct the imagery for this video. Our female character survives and overcomes obstacles in both previous chapters; by overcoming personal battles she achieves growth. In Chapter 3 she is greeted by a group of female warriors that to me are singing her own story as if she could both see herself in the warriors and the warriors see themselves in her...”

‘Murmurations’ lands May 11 via Wichita Recordings. Pre-order here and watch the video for ‘Defender’ below.

Simian Mobile Disco will play out at London’s Pickle Factory on May 25 for a dynamic album launch party. Grab a ticket here.
