Shades

Hellish music from the ravenous duo

"It's safe to say that Shades is my favourite production duo," says The Gaslamp Killer. "All-encompassing club music for maniacs like me!" Eprom and Alix Perez will be all smiles after a co-sign like that.

Gaslamp hits the nail on the head when saying their output is perfect for "maniacs". Their first, self-titled EP arrived last year and is a brutal concoction of screwed-up synths, mutant basslines and manic juke beats.

It's easy to understand how, collaboratively, they dish up music so ravenous. Working alone, Eprom has produced the bonkers, bleep-filled 'Hendt' on Warp and Perez has tracks like the bombastic 'Tell Dem' (a hook-up with Ivy Lab) in his locker.

Shades are returning with the 'Better To Reign In Hell Than To Serve In Heaven' EP and the title's pretty apt given the menacing attitude of their tunes. Among the five tracks is 'Gravediggin'', a tip-toeing devil of a cut that's fired up with the type of sizzle you'd expect down in hell. Get the first listen below.
