The Secret DJ is crowdfunding medical expenses after COVID battle

The former Mixmag columnist is facing a tough recovery from the disease

The Secret DJ is crowdfunding to cover his medical bills after a coronavirus-related health scare.

After contracting COVID-19 for the second time, the Secret DJ was rushed to hospital in Majorca. He spent two weeks on a ventilator in an induced coma, whilst suffering bronchitis, pneumonia and MRSI.

Whilst he survived, the DJ and ex-Mixmag columnist has done so with lung damage, loss of nearly a third of his body mass and a large hospital bill. He also faces a lengthy period of convalescence and physiotherapy.

The fundraiser calls for some support to cover his health costs, as well as the losses from his now-cancelled upcoming tour. Recognising his long-term activism in the industry, the page was set up by the Secret DJ’s management team on his behalf.

So far, over £16,000 of the £20,000 target has been raised.

Last year, the Secret DJ released his second book. The text charts the rise of dance music over the last 30 years, reporting on behind-the-scenes action and examining how capitalism bought and sold the dreams of the acid house generation.
