ROD
Benny Rodrigues brings the techno weirdness to Balans
Dutch producer Benny Rodrigues has released music on a wealth of record labels and one look at his discography shows the breadth of his production talents.
He's responsible for EPs on Boysnoize Records, Desolat, Smallville, Suara and Voyage Direct and under his ROD alias he's brought forward side-winding techno via Klockworks, Drumcode and CLR. That's fucking impressive in our books.
For his next release as ROD, he heads to Balans, the imprint owned by long-term friend and collaborator Darko Esser aka Tripeo. They've produced together before but now Benny offers up four tracks of solo techno sorcery on Balans019.
Each track delves into different realms of weirdness. There are trippy, snake-charmer riffs on 'Float', squelchy, dingy chords on 'Lego' and transcendent, delicate tones on 'Kloduba' but now we focus on '3yr', perhaps the most accessible track on the record.
To describe this track as luscious would be an understatement as light pads reverberate beautifully from the off while soft cymbals and hi-hats add to the groove and provide a steady drive. A fantastic EP from Rodrigues, one of the most versatile producers on the circuit.
The 'Balance' EP by ROD will be released on January 15 via Balans
