Richie Hawtin demonstrates the mechanics of his live show CLOSE

A detailed walkthrough of the techno legend's improvisational methods

After first debuting his extravagant audiovisual performance CLOSE at Coachella in 2017, Richie Hawtin's powerful live show has traveled far and wide all around globe - astonishing audiences with his unique setup, hypnotizing visuals and spectacular sound.

The technology-obsessed techno maestro has recently created a video in which he walks viewers through his setup for each CLOSE show. According to Hawtin, each improvised performance aims to “explore the relationship between human creativity and the innovative technologies that enable an artist to express themselves”.

He goes on to explain how his cohesive mix of hybrid and digital machines and the positioning of the gear allows him to operate in a way that creates a real "man-machine relationship."

Richie Hawtin will be bringing his majestic CLOSE show to Glasgow’s O2 Academy on October 11 and The Roundhouse in London on October 12.
