Richie Hawtin awarded doctorate by Sir Patrick Stewart
The University of Huddersfield honour the Canadian's outstanding contribution to the world of music technology
Richie Hawtin has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Huddersfield for his outstanding contribution to the world of music technology by none other than Sir Patrick Stewart, all-round British acting legend and chancellor of the university.
Hawtin has been involved in a number of music technology projects throughout his career, the most recent of which is his platform for education, CNTRL.
The US university campus tour features a series of lectures on the technology, production and business of electronic music.
It is the third honour Hawtin has received in the last year, after he was given the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music last September by the Association for Independent Music, as well as the Sake Samurai Award by the Sake Samurai Association at the Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto, Japan.
News of the Honorary Doctorate first broke in May, when the university labelled the techno pioneer a 'cult DJ'.
