Research says nightclub visits in the UK have fallen by 23 per cent since 2010

Accompanied by a £300 million decrease of revenue

A recent study says the amount of people visiting nightclubs in the UK has dropped by 23 per cent in the last five years.

Research by analysts Mintel revealed that nightclub visits sat at 115 million in 2015, compared to 149m in 2010. As a result, revenue for nightclubs dipped from £1.49 billion to £1.18bn in the five-year period.

The price of drinks, entrance fees and crowding are said to be the top three things to put off clubbers, according to Mintel.

This data comes a few weeks after the closure of London club fabric, which is currently raising money while it appeals against Islington Council's decision to revoke its licence following two drug-related deaths.

However, a Ticketmaster report last year showed that 60 per cent of 1017 people surveyed had stepped inside a club in between 2012 and 2015, with 51 per cent attending a dance music festival.

The UK's nighttime sector as a whole is said to be worth a mega £66 billion, employing 1.3 million people and pulling in 300m visitors per year.
