Radio Alhara is hosting a 24-hour South Africa x Palestine takeover

Sonic Liberation Front is Radio Alhara’s 24-hour show streaming today from 12:PM BST, bringing together the people in South Africa and Palestine.

The South African takeover kicks off with Cape Town-based Hamshack Radio, where Hannah Mutanda Kaniki starts the stream with three hours of poetry, music and statements from activists fighting for Palestine.

Throughout the day, collectives from South Africa will take over including beatmakers, DJs, artists and selectors. In an effort to raise awareness for those in Palestine fighting for their freedom, Sonic Liberation Front gave a statement about the stream.

“From our shared struggles against apartheid, we join our Palestinian brothers and sisters in our resistance against racism, capitalism, imperialism and colonialism,” said the curators of the show.

They continue, “from pass-laws to military checkpoints, we recognise your fight for humanity. From the coast of Cape to the coast of Gaza, we pray for peace. From District Six to Sheikh Jarrah, we stand with you.”

Running until 12:PM BST on July 1, the stream will also be taken over by record labels Roses Are Red, Mfengu Records, and Turn Left Recordings collectively from 5:AM, before easing into the morning with some more DJs and selectors.

At 11:AM on Thursday, the last hour of the stream will celebrate new South African music.

Tune in to Radio Alhara all day until 12:PM tomorrow for the South African x Palestinian takeover. The stream will also be mirrored on Hamshack Radio, Lilies, and A11 Radio.
