PRS for Music launches copyright detection tool MAPS
Members can now create their own takedown notices for illegal use of material
MAPS is a brand new tool from PRS for Music to tackle piracy and copyright infringement.
Now live to selected publisher members, it's described as a "bespoke notice and takedown system" which will work in association with book publishing trade body The Publishers Association.
Users will be able to automatically create takedown notices for unlicensed or infringing material online, also being able to get rid of links on Google. Not all members have access to do so right now, but the PRS for Music Anti-Piracy Unit can help if they are notified.
Simon Bourne, PRS for Music's Head of Litigation, Enforcement and Anti-Piracy, says MAPS will boost the detection of infringements and allow members to have a wider oversight of what's happening.
"MAPS will deliver greater control and transparency to our members, allowing them to participate in our content protection work. The system will also allow for a far greater number of infringements to be detected, reported and removed online.
"Whilst we call for the responsibilities of internet intermediaries to be clarified by law-makers, MAPS will utilise cutting-edge technology to enhance, automate and streamline PRS for Music’s rights protection work.”
