Prince's estate ordered to pay $1 million to keep posthumous EP unreleased
The ongoing legal battle to protect six coveted tracks
The battle for Prince's posthumous 'Deliverance' EP continues as a Minnesota federal judge has ordered the late artist's estate to pay $1 million to extend the hold on the work's release.
The collection, which includes six previously unreleased tracks recorded between 2006 and 2008, started legal discrepancies when sound engineer George Ian Boxill planned to release the tracks he co-produced, violating a strict contract requiring him to return all work made with Prince.
Though the written agreement states all recordings remain the artist's sole and exclusive property, the $1 million ordered by the federal judge would only extend the EP release's restraining order for 10 days.
No word yet on what legal action could be taken after the restraining order extension ends on May 22.
