Primavera Sound hails successful rapid COVID testing trial event

More than 1,000 people attended the event with no social distancing

Primavera Sound festival has held a trial event utilising rapid COVID testing.

The event, named PRIMACOV, hosted 1,042 people in the 1,600-capacity Sala Apolo venue in Barcelona, with local DJs playing.

Rapid tests that deliver results in 15 minutes took place before attendees were granted entry, with everyone required to test negative before being allowed into the event.

In a statement, the PRIMACOV team (Primavera Sound festival working alongside the Hospital Germans Trias in Barcelona and the Fight AIDS and Infectious Diseases Foundations) has declared the trial a success, saying: “That was, precisely, the objective of this study: to validate these kind of tests as an extremely useful tool to be able to carry out any type of event, whether musical or not, without social distancing.”

Next month London’s 350-capacity 100 Club is set to trial a new ventilation system that is designed to wipe out 99.99% of harmful airborne pathogens within buildings.
