Premiere: Real J produces another bumping groove on Waxtefacts

His 'Stuck In The Realness' EP is out end of February

You must have been living under a rock to not recognise the warbling piano riff of Real J's ‘Rhodes That’, his driving debut that’s received serious playtime.

Since its release on young label Waxtefacts seven months ago, it’s racked up 83,000 plays on Soundcloud and copies of the record, which also features Waxtefacts regulars Interstate and Strip Steve, are being sold for £90 on Discogs.

It’s a good example of the demand the producer is in despite having only just released his first EP. His follow up to ‘Rhodes That’ was a contribution to French label Khasia Hills debut compilation, which carries on in the same MPC-driven deep house fashion and he’s already played two major line-ups in London at The Nest with Project Pablo and XOYO with Marcellus Pittman and Mood II Swing.

Hailing from Bordeaux, David Cabanne’s hip hop-inspired mentality appears to follow in the footsteps of Berlin’s Max Graef and the OYE crew. His latest EP ‘Stuck In The Realness’ sees him return to Waxtefacts with four slices of deep grooves high on dusty samples and low-end funk.

Today we have the pleasure of premiering ‘People Playin’’, a cut from the b-side of the record. It carries all the hallmarks of a Real J banger: low-slung drums, shimmering keys and a driving sub.

You can catch Real J next playing at Waxtefacts’ one-year anniversary at Loftus Hall in Berlin on March 17. Head here for more details.
