Premiere: Dub Phizix shines the 'Spot Light' on his sweet side for Metalheadz

Less aggro, more affection from the Mancunian producer

It's always a rough ride when Dub Phizix is at the wheel. The Mancunian producer's drum 'n' bass is a turbulent, bumpy trip and it moves at such a breakneck speed even a yank at the handbrake would struggle to bring it to a halt.

He's travelled through the d'n'b big boys since 2011, releasing singles and EPs on Exit, Ingredients, Soul:r, Dispatch, Samurai and Critical, hooking up with the likes of Skeptical and fellow Manchester residents Chimpo and Fox on the journey.

Part of the up-to-no-good, tearaway Levelz crew, Phizix lent a hand on this year's 'LVL 11' release. Chimpo, Chunky, Fox, Skittles and Zed Bias also feature on a 13-tracker balancing out grubby bass, boom-bap beats and lowriding Cali funk.

So far this year he's put out 'Do One'/'Doberman' on Senka Sonic and the former's a souped up pneumatic drill to the floor, skipping and clicking relentlessly. Adding to that, he's got 'Spot Light' coming out on Metalheadz this month. The weighty kicks are swinging again, but there's some vintage bass chords that soften the blow and make it one sweet listen.

'Spot Light' is out via Metalheadz on December 16
