Premiere: 5ive + Samo DJ combine to create bubbly house bliss

Hear the debut collaboration from the two idiosyncratic artists now

From Studio Barnhus to Northern Electronics, Sweden’s underground dance music scene is absolutely thriving right now, renowned for a slightly off-kilter approach to production that results in unconventional sounds.

Samo DJ is another notable producer hailing from Stockholm who creates a warped style of house and techno, showcased through the output of the excellent Born Free label he runs alongside musical partner Sling. Take ‘Leggo’ from his ‘Tai Po Kau’ EP on L.I.E.S, a dark, rolling beat that suddenly cuts out at the 5-minute mark to forefront a sample from Jeremih’s ‘Birthday Sex’, for another prime example of his idiosyncratic style.

His next 12” is a collaboration with Japanese artist 5ive, also known as one half of production duo Cos/Mes who have released a number of equally distinctive records through outlets such as ESP Institute and Snaker.

It’s due out via Munich-based imprint Public Possession, which is a perfect home for each artist, having curated a unique and adventurous discography in its three years of operation, housing artists such as Bell Towers and Tambien, the project involving label bosses Marvin Schumann and Valentino Betz alongside Bartellow.

5ive and Samo DJ’s debut release as a pairing is a two-track EP titled ‘Some Song Teachers’. The A-side is a blissful cut, which forefronts a floaty synth line while the outer production swells with tremolo sounds and choral vocal samples. Check it out below.
