Prototype pictures of Panasonic's new Technics deck have surfaced, Slashgear reports.

The newly designed turntable features a direct drive motor with a coreless stator utilising twin magnets for high torque and a twin rotor that enables pinpoint speed control.

Panasonic have created this rotor "with the aim of enhancing the grade and sound quality of the renowned SL-1200."

The turntable is being designed from the inside out, so the images are unable to show us how the tonearm or controls will look on the finished product, which is due for release in 2016.

With sales of vinyl hitting an 18 year high last year, the market is primed for the return of Technics turntables.
