Richard L Spencer had never received royalties for samples of The Winstons' track 'Amen, Brother'
In just over a month after being set up, a fundraiser for one of the men behind the Amen break has collected over £20,000.
Martyn Webster, a UK DJ, set up a GoFundMe page at the end of February after he found out that Richard L Spencer of The Winstons - who created the original breakbeat - had never received any royalties.
It was on a BBC Radio 1Xtra documentary in 2011 that Spencer revealed his frustration about the wide use of the sample, a dominant part of many drum 'n' bass and jungle tunes, but after a load of support from DJs and the media, he's finally being compensated.
Although his bandmate and drummer Gregory Coleman passed away in 2006, Webster says, if he can get into contact with Coleman's daughter and step-daughter, they too will receive some of the money raised.
