Ryuichi Sakamoto's 'Ongaku Zukan' gets first international reissue
The record, which was previously only available in Japan, will be released in September via WeWantSounds
Ryuichi Sakamoto's 'Ongaku Zukan' is set to be reissued for international audiences, marking the first repress of work from the Japanese composer since he passed away earlier this year, on March 28.
Set for release on September 29, the reissue will be released by WeWantSounds on both vinyl and CD formats — with the entire tracklist being remastered for the new release by Saidera Mastering in Tokyo.
As a successful Oscar winning composer, record producer, actor, and member of the Yellow Magic Orchestra — Sakamoto embarked on a diverse range of styles, as well as influencing and pioneering a number of electronic music genres.
The artist also worked with Alejandro González Iñárritu to compose the score for box office blockbuster and Academy Award-winning film The Revenant.

After he departed from the Yellow Magic Orchestra, his solo releases, particularly his experimental 1978 electronic fusion album 'Thousand Knives', and 'Riot in Lagos' - released the same year as part of his 'B-Unit' album - were influential in the development of electro and hip hop.
The reissue of Sakamoto's fourth solo album was created in collaboration with the artists management company Midi Inc, and features the original gatefold artwork and an extra insert with commentary by Andy Beta.

The reissue will be a duplicate of the Japanese release, which also offered a bonus 7 inch EP with bonus tracks 'Replica' and 'Ma Mère l'Oye'.
