One Direction's Zayn Quits Group To Become DJ

One Direction's Zayn has announced this morning that he is leaving the group to concentrate on a new EDM DJ career.

Zayn Malik, 21, has confirmed in a statement that he will be ditching the rest of the band in order to move to Magaluf to take up a DJ residency at superclub BCM.

The remaining members of One Direction have vowed to continue as a four piece while Zayn goes down the same dance music route as fellow celebs Paris Hilton and Joey Essex.

It's widely believed that Zayn got into dance music after he hung out with EDM artists backstage at last year's iTunes festival in Camden. Rumours about DJ lessons and even a potential headphone range have circulated ever since.

Zayn's statement, released to press this early this morning, confirms: "The last four years have been incredible - from X-Factor to The Brit Awards. But like Take That's Howard Donald before me, deep inside there has always been a DJ burning to get out. See you on the d-floor. YOLO."

A tweet from Zayn, which was immediately deleted by his management, said: "I'd rather be in a sweaty club than on stage performing for underage girls - there, I said it!"

Harry Styles and the other three are believed to be inconsolable. Styles tweeted this morning: "Zayn is now the new Paul from S-Club 7. Who's Paul from S-Club 7? Exactly!"

A helpline has been set up for Directioners who are expected to take the news badly. A spokesman from the helpline told Mixmag: "We're here for anyone that wants to talk. Please don't do anything foolish."
