Omar S & O B Ignitt
This one goes out to Detroit
Detroit, the Motor City, home to some of the most influential and prolific electronic artists of all time. There's of course people like Carl Craig, Dopplereffekt, Moodymann and Jeff Mills who all originated from the area and all brought different sounds but when it comes to house, we've got a lot of love for Omar S.
The FXHE Records boss and producer has been churning out high-quality records for over a decade and whether his sound veers towards bumping, acidic, soulful or funky, it's always bang on the money and it's guaranteed to get you moving.
Back in 2012, the producer teamed up with O B Ignitt for the widely-praised and genuinely outstanding 'Wayne County Hill Cop's (Part.2)' EP and although little was known about O B, the two-tracker lit up sound-systems the world over and further cemented that Detroit and FXHE are the real deal.
Omar Harper aka O B Ignitt started up his own imprint, Obonit Records, back in June last year and has released two stellar EPs via the label since. The third release is another collaboration between Ignitt and Omar S so you can look forward to three stunning tracks that showcase the different styles and sounds the two are capable of conjuring up.
Described as a "90's style European dance house record" the EP was conceived in a week back in March and after several cuts, strippings and transformations, 'The 90's Evolution Of What It Was' was born. 'Fellow Me' is already available to listen to online and the punchy, shiny-synth laden cut is already doing the rounds so it's about time we had a new track to listen to.
'Seems Like Y'all Ready' is a deep, menacing roller that builds slowly with soft melodies and staggered percussion. Unlike 'Fellow Me' it's aimed more at the warehouse than the great outdoors but still possesses the same gold-standard of production and strictly-Detroit feel. Check it out.
You can grab 'The 90's Evolution Of What It Was' on vinyl from the Obonit Records here, digital soon
