Oliver Heldens: "Hacking is the future"

The 21-year-old reckons Watch Dogs 2 is onto something

In a recent interview with Mixmag, house producer Oliver Heldens sat down to talk about the world of hacking.

Heldens teamed up with Ubisoft to use his track ‘Good Life’ in the upcoming Watch Dogs 2, a game about a group of hackers running rampant in San Francisco.

With Heldens' uplifting and catchy track in place, they also collaborated on a video that strays from the notion that hacking is something that only takes place in the seedy underbelly of society.

“I think [the video and song] really compliment each other because when people think of hacking they might have a dark sense of it, but the music is more feel-good and uplifting, really disco," Heldens said.

“It’s definitely the future, hacking, and I don’t think most people realise how big it is. Before we were collaborating with Ubisoft, I had my own idea for the video, but that wasn’t really a hackers theme. Then Golden Wolf came in with a good idea which really brings the two worlds together."

As a gamer himself, the Dutch DJ was ecstatic to have his song in a game, therefore introducing his music to a whole new demographic.

“It’s a big honour, and, of course, a way for me to reach lots of people who haven’t heard that style of music. In the beginning it was quite weird that people would label me in future house but now I don’t really care. I would say the music speaks for itself and I’ve been releasing a lot of different stuff in the last years."

**‘Good Life’ and Watch Dogs 2 is out now* **worldwide on PS4 and Xbox One and on Windows PC on November 29.***
