Norman Jay: “Goldie is the Picasso of dance music”
The renowned DJ also discussed a past attempt to sign Jamiroquai
One legend to another, Norman Jay MBE has called Goldie “the Picasso of our contemporary dance music scene”.
Sitting down with The Guardian as part of the publication's ‘Harangue the DJ’ feature series, the esteemed DJ and Notting Hill native emptied the contents of his record bag and discussed some of his stand-out songs from over the years, with tunes from the likes of Goldie, Jamiroquai and Bob Marley.
Filing Goldie and Ulterior Motive's 'I Adore You' under “The track that should have been a crossover hit”, Jay explained: “I really can’t understand why this beautifully crafted piece of abstract drum’n’bass hasn’t done much better out there. Goldie is the Picasso of our contemporary dance music scene".
He also discussed his regrets over not signing Jamiroquai during his A&R tenure at Talkin' Loud records - claiming his attempts resulted in a "big fat no" from his then-boss.
