NMO - 8/10

'Nordic Mediterranean Organization/Numerous Miscommunications Occur'

It might not have invented it, but Powell’s Diagonal Records has pretty much cornered the intersection of post-punk and electronics.

It’s a good match for Berlin-based NMO, the duo comprised of Norwegian percussionist and former Moha! drummer Morten J Olsen and Spanish Evol-affiliate Rubén Patiño on electronics.

This release features the compulsive, propulsive motion we require from dance music but bristles with contagious kinetic energy and spiky synth treatments.

It all adds up to a lot of fun, but like the best punks these guys are smart-asses, too.

The majority of the 13 tracks appear on the vinyl as locked grooves (no iTunes equivalent for that yet, unfortunately) and the title of each release is a different take on what the initials NMO might signify.

The two used for this double 12” are the wittiest yet.
