Nightclubs no longer included in UK inflation data
The decline of venues and decreased entry prices meant it was hard to collect data
Nightclubs have been removed from UK inflation data collected by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Due to the number of clubbing venues dropping - almost halving in the last 10 years - it's been reported that entry prices have either decreased or changed to free. As a result, it's harder for the government to collect the data to measure inflation for the Consumer Prices Index (CPI).
The Arches in Glasgow and Plastic People, Cable and Crucifix Lane in London have all closed, with Ministry of Sound coming under pressure in the past because of a housing development being built nearby.
CD-Roms join nightclubs being removed from the ONS' list, highlighting the prevalence of downloading rather than physically buying.
