London Mayor Sadiq Khan is looking for the UK's first Night Czar
The role is advertised online and pays £35k a year
During his mayoral campaign, Sadiq Khan made a pledge to save London’s "iconic club scene" by learning lessons from Amsterdam and appointing a Night Czar to represent the interests of London’s nightlife.
An advert for the position has now been posted on the London Assembly’s website, indicating he is set to follow through on this promise.
The description for the job states: “The Mayor of London is looking to appoint the UK’s first Night Czar to shape London’s future as a 24-hour city. The Night Czar will champion the value of London’s night time culture whilst developing and diversifying London’s night time economy.
“Working with the Mayor, the Night Time Commission, local authorities, businesses, the Metropolitan Police Service, Transport For London and other agencies, the Night Czar will create a vision for London as a 24-hour city and a roadmap showing how the vision will be realised.”
Considering the number of people passionate about saving London’s night-time industry, and the £35,000 per annum salary for 2.5 days of work a week, there should be no shortage of applications for the role.
Interviews are set to take place next month. Hopefully Sadiq will find the right person for the job and they can have a big impact on fixing the city’s faltering night scene.
