Nicolas Bougaïeff releases five-tracker 'EP3'

He's sharing a range of accompanying technique tutorials on Instagram, too

Nicolas Bougaïeff has shared five-track record 'EP3' via NovaMute.

From atmospheric pads and aquatic, acidic synths to scratching textures, wonky melodies and more hypnotic affairs, the EP upholds the experimental approach to production taken by the Canadian-born, Berlin-based artist - who also has a PhD in minimal techno - featuring his distinct use of polytemporality.

Throughout the period of the EP creation, he's also been sharing a variety of tutorials on Instagram, demystifying not only polytemporality, but also a technique known as pivot mixing.

"Pivot mixing is a DJ technique to mix in tempo ratios around a steady loop. The technique is also an entry point to a polytemporal world I’ve been working on for the past few years. Tracks on 'EP3' feature prime rhythms, that is rhythmic divisions with prime factors beyond two and three, sometimes up to seventeen. My goal is to break out of the binary yoke that underpins electronic dance music and offer something new.”
