New pop-up shop dedicated to electronic music to open in Brussels
Objet Petit a will be Brussels’ first female-run electronic music store
A new pop-up shop dedicated to the electronic music scene is set to open in Brussels this weekend.
Created by Dana Kuehr and Ailsa Cavers, Objet Petit a (OP-a) will become Brussels’ first female-run electronic music store. It aims to "promote diversity, inclusion, and (eco)feminism" within the city's scene.
Inside OP-a, which is located in the Etterbeek area of the Belgian capital, will be a range of products, including new and second-hand records, music equipment, clothing, books, magazines and sculptures, with the hope to be a "space for like-minded spirits".

Opening on May 2, the new space will host music and drinks all day with sets from Franziska Berns and Johan and food from L’Arne Della Pizza.
After its opening event, the store will run weekly meditation sessions, sound healings, and many other in-store sessions and workshops with local musicians and collectives.
Collectives and partners locked include Ghent-based party Supergay, French zine makers Spirale Press, and Lisbon-based label Welt Discos.
In addition to the sessions at OP-a, there will also be a co-working space towards the rear of the shop for creatives who need a quiet location to work.

Dana and Ailsa explained in a press release that the name Objet Petit a stands for "the little other" in reference to "an object of desire" in Lacanian psychoanalysis.
They explain: "In recent years, we’ve been interested in queer and feminist critiques and re-readings of Lacan, and this idea stuck out to us as an amusing and slightly subversive name for our concept. Naturally, we shortened it to op-a, and now we love the little nod to grandpas and Greek weddings as well."
The long-term friends also run the communication agency Blurbs and are founding members of PLANET, a DJ and producer collective.
The pop-up store will be open for nine weeks from May 2 to July 28 at 331 Chaussée De Wavre, Etterbeek, Brussels.
Objet Petit a's opening event will run from 12:PM till 8:PM on May 2.
