New book 'Rave On' analyzes Detroit, Berlin, Ibiza and New York's underground
Dance music is no longer a subculture
A new book by famed music journalist Matthew Collin studying electronic music's evolution from subculture to mainstream is set to release next week.
Rave On: Global Adventures In Electronic Dance Music is an in-depth analysis of club and electronic scenes around the world, from each movement's conception to its current state and future.
Collin, who is best known for his 1997 work on the UK acid house scene, Altered State, was also on Mixmag's editorial team and wrote the magazine's first Daft Punk feature the same year.
The author traveled internationally to curate an incredibly thorough and multi-faceted examination of today's thriving underground arenas.
Rave On explores Detroit techno, Berlin's idealist conditions, Ibiza's superstar DJ culture, deep house movements of South Africa, Isreal's uniting psytrance scene, the flourishing markets of Shanghai and Dubai and New York City's LGBTQ culture.
The book will release digitally on January 11, with hard copies available on January 24.
An exclusive excerpt from Collin's Rave On will also be published in the forthcoming February Mixmag issue.
