Mixmag celebrates one year In LA with massive party
We're doing 4th of July right with a free LA bash
Since setting up shop in our surrogate home of Los Angeles almost a year ago, Mixmag has been welcomed into the scene with open arms and we couldn't be happier with the response to our move to Southern California.
Our weekly Lab series, which has run steadily in our London HQ for the last three years, was reappropriated for the Los Angeles crowd and quickly developed beyond being merely a showcase for the talented DJs that would roll through. The Lab became the first party of the weekend for many of LA's house and techno savvy audience, with a wonderful core community of people coming every week to shake off the cobwebs gathered through the workweek and plough headstrong into the weekend with groove in their step.
Over the last year we've had the likes of Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen, Hannah Wants, Paul Oakenfold, Laidback Luke and Gina Turner, Desert Hearts, Flosstradamus, Pete Tong and many more fantastic acts across the full spectrum of dance music come to play at the Lab. Each session is filmed and posted to the Mixmag TV page, and the response has been unequivocally positive.
After a year of unwavering support from the LA underground scene we'd like to give you little scamps something back. We're throwing a free July 4 day party at Le Jardin in Hollywood, and we've got a suitably banging line-up of local favourites and solid international acts.
If you want to come and get down with us this Saturday, RSVP on the Facebook group and get yourself along early. But if you can't make it by you can catch Chaim and Louie Fresco's sets on Sunday morning on Mixmag TV.

Chaim is a Berlin-based Israeli house DJ/producer and one of the hottest up-and-coming names on the underground. He's had big releases on Supplement Facts, Cocoon and MBF – and is closely connected to the Berlin imprint BPitch Control. A good friend and regular DJing partner of LA semi-resident Guy Gerber, we look forward to bringing this exciting artist to the City Of Angels.
M A N I K is a young NY/LA-based DJ and producer who's been making waves in the global scene for a number of years. He's a had major releases on Josh Wink's Ovum imprint, Culprit and Poker Flat, and brought his own acid and tech-house sounds to legendary clubs like Panorama Bar, Verboten and Womb. You can see him and Droog tear up in last year's Culprit records takeover of the Lab LA at the bottom of the page.
LA scene heavyweights Droog are the founders and operators of Culprit, one of the city's most important underground labels. As a label and as promoters they've been instrumental in transforming the West Coast dance music landscape. As DJs they've repped their forward-thinking house sound at the likes of Fabric, Sankeys and Watergate.
Hailing from Mexico City, Louie Fresco is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. After dropping his debut album 'Autophobia' he became an integral part of Nitin and Jonny White's No.19 Music label, and has had a steady flow of big remixes out on Strictly Rhythm, Defected, Smoke N Mirrors.
Chicago-born, London-based artist Kate Simko's sound is heavily influenced by Chicago house and Detroit techno – and her classically trained background gives some serious depth and complexity to her productions. She's had big tracks out on No.19 Music, Get Physical and Toolroom, and has a new album 'PolyRhythmic' coming out with Tevo Howard via Last Night On Earth.
House, techno and disco duo MD are two of the most important DJs in LA's burgeoning after-party scene. Through their parties Midnight Lovers, Disco Dive and Dialogue they've been an integral part of keeping the city's warehouse scene alive and bringing fresh underground music to Downtown Los Angeles.
