Melbourne club Hugs & Kisses expected to close
The inner city building it's in will be auctioned later this month
Melbourne club Hugs & Kisses is expected to close after the building it's in was put up for auction.
The hazy inner city space is loved for its inclusivity and has mystique as a members only venue, which others can attend by signing in as a guest of one, due to an odd license from its days as a men's club. Bizarro hosts Moxie there this weekend.
Organiser Hugo Atkins, who runs the club with Melbourne scene stalwart Andee Frost, launched the space as the Buffalo Club in 2010 before rebranding as Hugs & Kisses in 2014.
Posting to Facebook, they wrote "We don't know when exactly we will be forced to close, as we haven't been given a clear date. We only know that's it's coming. Will let you know exactly when we can all pay your last respects."
The club had just acquired The Mercat's old Funktion-One system. Atkins told Broadsheet he'd be looking for a new CBD space and a string of goodbye parties would be on the cards.
