Maceo Plex injures woman by throwing drinks cup into crowd in Brazil

The woman has been offered VIP entry for life to Warung, where the incident happened

Maceo Plex injured a woman after throwing a drinks cup into the crowd while playing at Warung Beach Club in Brazil last Friday, December 3.

Footage of the incident has appeared online, in which Maceo Plex takes a drink from someone alongside him in the booth, starts to down it, then launches the plastic cup into the crowd and embraces the person he took it from.

Eye witnesses have reported that the cup hit a woman in the crowd and caused her nose to bleed.

Twitter account @businessteshno has posted footage of the incident on social media.

Warung published a video apology from Maceo Plex on its Facebook page on Wednesday, December 8, with the caption: “A message from our friend @MaceoPlex and our apology!”

Speaking in Spanish with Portuguese subtitles added to the video, Maceo Plex apologises for throwing the glass and says that the woman who was hit is being given lifetime VIP admission to Warung as well as any medical expenses covered in an attempt to make amends. According to Maceo Plex, she has sincerely forgiven him.

In the apology statement, Maceo Plex says: “Hello everyone in Brazil and Warung who attended the other night to see me DJ. I want to apologise to you. Yesterday they told me that the cup stupidly thrown out to the public had hit a young lady and that her nose was bleeding. There are no excuses, really. It was a mistake.”

He also notes: “The people from Warung told me they were going to try to take care of you, and obviously I have offered to pay for any medical care you need, and also that we should offer lifetime VIP.

“You were there to support me and in the end I ended up hurting you. I feel bad about it. There's nothing more to say. I hope I can go back to Warung and that they accept me there in their beautiful country, and that they accept me there to play again. And obviously that won't happen again. It's something I do sometimes like throwing my headphones, and this time I threw an almost empty plastic cup, but anyway, I shouldn't have done it. I'm terribly sorry.”
