Lunice - 7/10
180
Lunice has been away for a while and now he makes a return with an EP of tracks made in 2011 and 2012. It's something of an odd move: perhaps the title of the EP marks this as a turning point, dropping his deadly trap rap instrumentals for one last time before embarking on a new project or sound (if he hasn't already). Or it's simply a neat promo for a run of shows supporting Madonna in the EU (which will have ended by the time you read this). Either way, we'd have liked some brand new music to listen to.
Though pivotal in its creation and success (we had so much fun at the TNGHT shows), this kind of instrumental hip hop just doesn't feel that exciting some four years down the line, even by Lunice's standards. There's nothing wrong with the squiggle and shimmer of the bouncy 'Burnt' or the romantic slow burn of 'Nite Bells' per se, but we were expecting more than a handful of dusty beats from the vault.
