Los Angeles officials propose a ban on festivals after HARD Summer deaths
The drug-related deaths have led LA officials to reconsider safety and security measures
Los Angeles county supervisors are considering placing a temporary ban on major music festivals within county-owned facilities.
The plans arrive as a response to the recent deaths of two young women at HARD Summer in Pomona and Hilda Solis, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, believes security and safety needs to be looked into.
She said: "I want to provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy. No one should have to lose their life while attending a public concert. As we move forward, more measures need to be considered to create a safe environment for all patrons and a zero tolerance for illicit drugs."
The proposed plan will be presented in two weeks to supervisors for further approval, but right now the next HARD event on September 10 is still set to go ahead.
A spokeswoman for Fairplex, the location of HARD, said: "Any time we have a large event on our campus, we are aware of the risks. We have protocols in place and our event promoters supplement Fairplex medical and security staffing during highly popular events in consultation and coordination with community public safety leaders.
"We offer our condolences to the family of these young women, and the Fairplex takes every measure to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at our events."
