London Mayor Sadiq Khan is protecting nightclubs with new soundproofing measures

The agent of change principle means property developers will have to cover costs

Mayor Sadiq Khan’s new London Plan draft will help protect clubs, pubs and live venues from property developers.

An agent of change is being included in the new draft that will make property developers building new residential buildings next to existing venues and pubs, responsible for the costs of ensuring adequate soundproofing for the building.

A statement from Khan’s office said: “Boroughs will have to refuse proposals from developers that have not clearly demonstrated how they will manage this noise impact”.

Khan said pubs were at the heart of London’s communities and historic value.

“I’ve set out measures in my draft London Plan to protect pubs against redevelopment, ensure they can co-exist peacefully with nearby residential properties and ensure that councils across the capital recognise their importance to the city’s cultural fabric”.
