Liverpool property development endangers the future of 24 Kitchen Street

A planning committee will decide on the construction of 200 flats next Tuesday

The proposed construction of 200 flats in Liverpool could lead to the closure of popular venue 24 Kitchen Street, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The club, which has hosted the likes of Objekt, Pender Street Steppers and Tama Sumo this year, currently holds a 4am licence and has an outdoor courtyard. The team that runs the spot are concerned that the noise generated from the club will lead to its closure if the flats are built in the planned location of land in between Blundell Street, Kitchen Street and Simpson Street.

Speaking to RA, director loan Roberts said: "We want the developers to put in place the provisions to mitigate against potential complaints down the line, by acoustically insulating the flats to the necessary level.”

The scheme will be presented to planners on December 20. Planners have recommended to the planning committee that it is approved, with the report stating "the Interim Head Of Planning is satisfied that the proposed use would not unduly affect the operation of 24 Kitchen Street or other nearby entertainment uses.”
