Listen to timeless sets from Frankie Knuckles, Sasha & Digweed and more recorded at the Haçienda
A nostalgic playlist of DJ sets from the greats in the 90s
For those who never experienced the splendor of the Haçienda, don’t fret - a blog has uploaded a plethora of sets that reverberated throughout the legendary venue.
Arguably the most iconic UK nightclub of all time, the Haçienda played an integral role in the development of rave culture during the 80s and 90s, specifically the acid house scene. It’s importance is comparable to the Paradise Garage or the Warehouse in the United States, as dance music flourished there, but controversy and financial difficulties lead to it’s closure in 1997.
Now, nearly 20 years after the Haçienda officially shut down, a website called Blog51, named after the club’s designation in the Factory Records catalogue, is supplying music fans with a plethora of downloadable sets, all recorded live between 1983 and 1997.
Listen back to DJ sets from the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Laurent Garnier, David Morales, Pete Tong in 1993 and a standout set from Sasha & Digweed in 1994 that offers a glimpse of the early years during their development into the illustrious figures they are today.
To add to the nostalgia, Haçienda regular Andrew Mckim has supplied firsthand accounts to go with each set that was recorded.
