LCD Soundsystem will return with a tour and a new album this year

In a letter to fans, James Murphy says he's feeling more creative than ever

The world has heard more about LCD Soundsystem in the past few weeks than it has in years, and today, the band finally unveiled plans to make a full-fledged come back with a tour and an album to boot.

In 2014, LCD Soundsystem called it quits after a successful decade-long run with a coveted farewell show at Madison Square Garden. Just two years later, the band has slowly but surely begun to reemerge in the music scene: firstly with a melancholy Christmas tune, the first material the band has released in five years, and most recently, as headliners of Southern California's leading festival, Coachella.

Frontman of the group James Murphy took to the band's official website to pen a letter in attempt to clarify where the band currently stands.

The letter was honest, sharing how exactly Murphy stumbled upon the idea of reigniting LCD Soundsystem and even addressing the way fans might feel about their now cheapened "final goodbye" experience in 2014. But perhaps most importantly, he confirmed that the band is indeed returning to tour in 2016 and is also working on completing an album right now.

"We're not just playing coachella. [sic] we're playing all over. we're not just having some reunion tour. we're releasing a record (sometime this year—still working on it, actually)," Murphy explained in his letter. He also states he's got more song ideas than ever before.
