Last Magpie

Despite the name, 'Silver' is auditory gold

When he's not creating bass-heavy weapons as one half of Mak & Pasteman, Craig McNamara is Last Magpie and his output under the alias is one that's ever-evolving.

He's been active since 2012 but at the start of 2013 he released 'Fallen' and since then we've been following McNamara like a hawk. EPs on Hypercolour, Losing Suki and Electric Minds have all brought different sounds but all carry the same golden production style.

For his latest record, Last Magpie returns to Hypercolour and the 'Separation' EP once again showcases his deft and varied skill sets. While the title track is trippy and analogue-centred, we're really feeling 'Silver' and we've got the first play.

The track starts off with a stomping groove and that's backed up by chunky riffs and clever little hi-hats. The whole thing transforms however once the beautifully serene piano chords are introduced, from there it's just a stairway to the clouds.

The 'Separation' EP is out on July 31st via Hypercolour
