Las Vegas prepares to welcome Intrigue, the new 'anti-Vegas' club

Could this nightclub really change the Vegas DJ system?

There's no question that Las Vegas has been a major push for the "EDM" bubble to teeter into money-fueled, over-the-top world led by DJs that walk away with six digit paychecks for one performance.

Ironically, Sin City is now attempting to lead the charge of the "anti-Vegas" experience with a new club called Intrigue, set to open its doors on April 28.

Intrigue will replace the former Tryst in the Wynn Las Vegas, and chief operating officer of the venue is claiming that it's the antithesis of what most have come to expect of the nightlife in the city. "It is the opposite of a big DJ-driven club. The DJ is no longer the most important part of the recipe."

It's a bold statement coming from someone who belongs in the same family as XS, one of the handful of major bottle service nightclubs that hold residencies from the likes of Alesso, Zedd, Diplo and more. However, Intrigue will supposedly be an intimate experience with one main VIP-style room and zero social media to document.

"People are sick of the DJs in Vegas," Victor Drai, owner of his self-titled club explains. "It’s ridiculous to have the same five or six guys, pay them a fortune and lose money. It will reach a point where DJs are totally irrelevant."

Have we reached the point where DJs are totally irrelevant? Calvin Harris - who walked away from 2015 with over $66 million in earnings, largely in part to his three-year residency deal signed with Hakkasan group - probably would beg to differ. But we'll just have to wait and see.
