Kendrick Lamar's new album originally a homage to Tupac
The rapper reveals how his latest album got its name
Kendrick Lamar's third album 'To Pimp A Butterfly' dropped two weeks ago. In an interview with MTV, Kendrick revealed the album's first working title was 'Tu Pimp A Caterpillar', an abbreviation of Tupac.
He changed it to butterfly, "To show the brightness of life. The word 'pimp' has so much aggression and that represents several things," he says. "Not being pimped by the industry through my celebrity," Kendrick explains.
The album's final track 'Mortal Man' throws hints at the connection as he appears to interview Tupac.
