Keep Sydney Open calls for Sydney night mayor

The group has been inspired by a recent nightlife summit in Amsterdam

Anti-lockouts group Keep Sydney Open has called for a night mayor to be appointed in Sydney.

The group's campaign manager Tyson Koh recently attended a summit in The Netherlands held by Amsterdam night mayor Mirik Milan, who has represented his city's nightlife industry since 2012, and posted to Facebook:

"I am advocating strongly for the creation of a Night Mayor of our own. As the current (New South Wales state) government has displayed an utter disregard for the cultures that exist after dark, I believe they should make an effort to reconcile this ignorance by appointing either a person or a department that is dedicated to making Sydney's night-time economy work."

Central Sydney bars and clubs have been forced to abide by a 1.30am lockout and 3am cessation of service since February 2014. The restrictive laws are currently up for review.
