Watch Kanye West try his luck on American Idol

Kanye West surprised judges at the San Francisco American Idol auditions by turning up to try his luck in the talent contest.

The international superstar introduces himself as a hopeful rapper performing an original song while his then-pregnant wife Kim Kardashian watches on at the sidelines.

"I just wanted to do something original, it has one of the judge's names in it" he announces before launching into an a capella rendition of Jennifer Lopez-referencing 'Gold Digger'.

Kanye's audition unsurprisingly earns him the coveted golden ticket straight to Hollywood. Check it out below.
