Kanye West: "I’ve thought about killing myself all the time"
The GOOD Music founder gets candid
Kanye West has opened up about his mental state, admitting he has regularly contemplated suicide.
In an interview with New York Times, the rapper was asked how literal the lyrics "I think about killing myself" are in the opener of recent album 'Ye'.
West responded: "Oh yeah, I’ve thought about killing myself all the time. It’s always a option and [expletive]. Like Louis C.K. said: I flip through the manual. I weigh all the options.
"I’m just having this epiphany now, ’cause I didn’t do it, but I did think it all the way through. But if I didn’t think it all the way through, then it’s actually maybe more of a chance of it happening.”
Kanye also revealed how his wife, Kim Kardashian West, called on motivational speaker Tony Robbins to intervene as she grew worried about her husband's health.
“He could look at me and you know, I don’t know why he mentioned suicide, but he could tell that I was very low.”
Kanye added how Robbins instructed him to scream in an attempt to regain his lost confidence.
"I was so self-conscious about the nanny and the housekeeper that I didn’t want them to hear me screaming in the living room.”
The interview follows the release of five Kanye-produced albums, including his own 'Ye', Pusha T's 'Daytona', Nas' 'Nasir', 'Kids See Ghosts' with Kid Cudi and Teyana Taylor's 'KTSE'.
