Jeremy Corbyn will introduce Run The Jewels at Glastonbury

Atlanta meets Islington

Jeremy Corbyn is set to make an appearance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage next week to introduce American rap duo Run The Jewels. The Labour leader was set appear at the festival last year, but cancelled at short notice due to the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.

However, this year Jezza is back and is set to introduce the hip hop group, known for their left-wing views and close friendship with former Democratic nominee Senator Bernie Sanders. The duo recently gave a shout out to the Labour party during their show at Field Day on June 3.

Corbyn will appear on stage with festival founder Michael Eavis, who shares Corbyn’s views on nuclear disarmament. “We’re Corbyn fans, that’s the thing,” Eavis told the Guardian. “He’s got something new and precious, and people are excited about it. He really is the hero of the hour.

“He really believes in [nuclear disarmament], like I do. The UK’s nuclear weapons cost an absolute fortune, and make us a target. Why? For four boats? It’s ridiculous; it’s so absurd. Corbyn is on the same page with me on that one. He’s going to fight it out, I think.”

Labour MP Clive Lewis also announced via Twitter today (June 16) that his ‘Recharge Your Activism’ showcase on the Leftfield stage will feature an appearance from the Labour leader.
