Jeff Mills shines a light on his favourite composers with new mix
‘Astronomia’ was recorded prior to his performance at The Barbican last month
After being blown away by Jeff Mills' incredible performance with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at historic London venue The Barbican last month, we were delighted to come across his 'Astronomia' mix today.
Over the course of 25 minutes Mills showcases a number of his favourite composers alongside his own works, crafting a beautiful mix that places entrancing orchestral sounds alongside more minimal arrangements. It's the perfect soundtrack for your downtime from relentless club beats.
Speaking about 'Astronomia', the Detroit pioneer revealed: "The mix comprises of various compositions from my favourite composers and a few from myself with pianist and composer Makhail Rudy.
"Using the last composition in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick as my first track here, my objective was to create a charismatic continuation soundtrack that takes place after the end (finale) of Kubrick's film.
"Something that addresses an unusual unfolding occurrence, perhaps the special synthesizing that happens when/as human life is formed. Where elements are the subject of consequences far beyond the listener's control."
