Islington MP "disgusted" by police's attitude towards Fabric closure

She praised fabric for its "good practice"

An Islington MP has shared her disappointment and disgust at the recent closure of fabric.

Emily Thornberry took to her Facebook page to praise the London club and say the police should not have acted the way they did throughout the case.

Beginning by writing the licence being revoked has set a "worrying precedent" for nightclubs in the UK, nearly half of which have shut in the last 10 years, she went onto to write about the importance of young people.

"A whole generation of young people across Europe have come to Fabric, this is a generation that is hardly ever represented by politicians. We middle-aged politicians should try to understand it from the perspective of young people.

"I have been disgusted by the police’s attitude in this. The suggestion that fabric should change its name and music was wrong. Should there be an approved Met Police playlist, with Brian Adams or something?"

She did state there "is no room to be complacent" about the drug-related death which led to fabric losing its licence, but suggested attitudes towards drugs need to change.

"The truth is that we are not going to stamp out drug use. We have to be realistic about this and I think Fabric has had good practice and has been better at this than other nightclubs. Closing Fabric is not the answer."
