Ireland takes MDMA more than any other country in the world

The Global Drug Survey results have arrived

The results of the Global Drug Survey 2017 are in and Ireland has come out a medal winner.

MDMA is a favourite on The Emerald Isle, with 39.7 per cent of respondents saying they had taken the drug in pill or powder form in the last year. That means they take more MDMA than any other country in the world.

Although down from the 58 per cent in 2016, Ireland still remains at the top of the worldwide MDMA-taking league.

The GDS also revealed the Irish are paying an average of €7.10 for a pill, while a gram of MDMA powder totals at €46.50.

64 per cent of Irish females and 53.1 per cent of males aged under 25 take a quarter or half to start with. However, over 70.3 per cent of females and 62.7 per cent of males allow time to find out the strength of their drugs before consuming any more.

Despite the high numbers of consumption, only 1.3 per cent have had to get medical treatment.

Ireland being at the top comes as no surprise when ecstasy was accidentally legal in the country for 12 hours in 2015.
