Whomping UK bass with a touch of delicacy
Ipman's productions are deadly, concrete-coated weapons.
The Herefordshire producer will soon release his debut album, 'Depatterning', on Bristol label Tectonic Recordings, in conjunction with LA-based imprint Glass Air, home to The Glitch Mob, reflecting the first release in an on-going cross-Atlantic relationship. A perfect collaborative home for the nine electrifying, explosive tunes he's got on offer.
They'll add to his previous heavy-handed cuts, such as the demonic 'Ventricle' on Pinch's vinyl-only imprint Cold Recordings, 'Sensory Deprivation' on Artikal Music and creeping dubstep puncher 'Let Them' with Compa.
His album balances on the edge of murky UK bass music and techno, but 'Last One In The In' is one of the least feisty tunes on the record. High-tempo, yes. Whomping bass, yes. But the dabbles of piano and pin-sharp synths add a touch of delicacy to it. Just not the last minute or so when it turns into a whirl of shrieking distortion.
