Influential drum 'n' bass producer Apex has passed away
His work as Apex and Unknown Error will be remembered forever
Beloved drum 'n' bass producer Apex, born Robert Dickeson, has passed away.
Apex arrived on the d'n'b scene as part of Unknown Error with a slew of successful releases that charted on the BBC 1 Xtra D'n'B charts and even honored as Mixmag's own D'n'B release of the month ('Heaven and Hell') before departing the duo to focus on a solo career.
As Apex, Dickeson solidified his standing as an iconic d'n'b producer with memorable hits like 'Nowhere To Run', 'Inner Space' and his remix of London Elektricity's 'Just One Second'. In late 2016, he unveiled a new techno-tipped alias called Robert Oaks which released tracks via Mau5trap.
Through his work as both Apex and Unknown Error, he's released on Hospital Records, Renegade Hardware, Trouble On Vinyl, Subtitles, Critical Recordings, Moving Shadow, Lifted Music, Cyanide, Horizons, Cymbalism, Defcom, Katakis, Universal Project and Fallout Recordings.
His team has yet to release an official announcement about Apex's passing, but Dancing Astronaut reports that sources close to the producer have suggested that his death was a suicide.
Friends and peers of Apex have taken to social media to remember the late artist.
